Simulator Engineer Formula-E (m/w/d)

Aufgaben
The Lola Yamaha ABT Formula E Team competes in the FIA Formula E World Championship, uniting Lola Cars' legendary motorsport heritage, Yamaha’s cutting-edge technology, and the racing expertise of ABT Sportsline. 
We are looking for a Simulator Engineer to play a central role in operating, maintaining, and developing our Driver-in-the-Loop (DiL) simulator environment. This includes both hardware and software components and supports our vehicle development and race preparation efforts.

Key Responsibilities

Simulator Operation & Session Support
  • Operate and manage DiL simulator sessions with drivers and engineers.
  • Prepare simulation runs for car development and race event prep.

Modelling & Software Development
  • Develop and maintain vehicle models in MATLAB/Simulink.
  • Work with Canopy models (DiL and offline).
  • Develop scripts and tools to optimise simulation workflows.
  • Maintain and enhance rFpro-based simulation tracks and session setups.
  • Update and document track models and simulation environments.

Hardware & Systems
  • Maintain and upgrade simulator hardware (sensors, actuators, wiring looms).
  • Monitor simulator system health and ensure reliability.

Integration & Communication
  • Handle API interactions and CAN-based communication.
  • Support vehicle network diagnostics and integration tasks.

Profil
Discipline: Vehicle Simulation / DiL Engineering

Kempten, Germany (occasional travel to support team activities)
 
 

Required:
  • Proficiency in MATLAB/Simulink, Python, and VBA.
  • Understanding of real-time systems and vehicle dynamics.
  • Experience with CAN communication and system diagnostics.
  • Experience operating or supporting DiL or simulation-based environments.

Nice to Have:
  • Experience with rFpro (TerrainEditor, SceneEditor).
  • Familiarity with Canopy (DiL and offline).
  • Knowledge of vehicle network integration and motorsport electronics.

Education & Background
  • Degree in Mechanical, Automotive, Electrical, or Motorsport Engineering or a related technical field.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving mindset.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced racing environment.
  • Self-driven and collaborative, with attention to detail.
